Reviewing the photos from the earlier Rebels, the photos and the images on my computer are all sharper than those taken from the SL1. The proof is when you enlarge the photos. The early Rebel EOS camera images retain their sharpness while the SL1 images become blurry as soon as you enlarge them. I have no explanation for the decline in quality. My guess is that back in the manufacturing facility a shortcut was taken in quality of manufacturing, materials, and the quality control process which saved the corporation lots of money but the end result is dissatisfied customers.

Only x size can record for 30 minutes. I just see all the setting nothing to change it. You have to use a SD card with a faster write speed. HD video requires that. Camera has a buffer and will stop once it is full. ISO good picture ISO starting to get grain but acceptable ISO too much grain, need photoshop to smooth out ISO picture too grainy to look at, do not use anything near and it goes up to , that's a joke My son would like to purchase his first SLR camera.

My wife and I just bought the SL1 and love it. It is also our first SLR and I have no complaints whatsoever. It takes wonderful photos and is small enough to tote around when traveling.
Our primary uses are travel and family pictures. We have two small children who never stop moving and which makes it hard to get clear photos. So far, we have accumulated lots "frame-worthy" photos using the SL1. We made sure to buy a couple of lenses though as the standard kit lens is good but not a catch all. We are very happy with the purchase and the results. My brother-in-law and close friend are professional photographers, then both highly recommended the camera as a first SLR.
It has some creative features and is very easy to learn how to use. I may not be the greatest resource as a first time SLR owner, but I've had a great time with this camera and have not been able to put it down. Any ideas. It certainly isn't a 5Dlll, but it is a very capable little camera. It's annoying how cameras and cars are often lacking a price tag "too low to display". The Yongnuo flash you are looking at will work with this camera. I would encourage you to investigate working with the flash OFF the camera as much as possible though.

This is a kitchen sink book, and not in a good way. Everything you need to know about Flash is in it but in such a hopeless jumble it might as well not be. Reading this book is like spending the day with a jabbery neighbor who can't distinguish the important from the incidental.
Once Perkins begins a topic, he just chatters about whatever comes into his head - the truly practical right along with the uselessly arcane. On almost every page is at least one "Tip" or "Note," often several, to distract you from the main line of thought. These are generally the kind of facts that better writers put in footnotes or an index or their own chapter, or simply leave out.
Perkins just spatters them everywhere, perpetually directing your attention to the uselessly marginal, and away from what should be the focus. Once you read about twenty of these, and realize how scatterbrained they are, you begin to slalom around them, mentally doing the editing that Perkins should have done.
